Rute

Rute - A great leisure destination

Rute sits with the mountains behind her and a sea of olive trees at her feet. It's on the edge of the Subbética Natural Park and is ideal for exploring the towns and villages that surround the area. There's lots to see and do such as hill walking, bird watching and cycling. There are local organisations offering organised tours or you can just go off to explore on your own.

Its location, practically equidistant from four Andalusian capitals, the historical legacy, gastronomy, as well as the natural environment all make it a superb base to explore the area.

The town is famous throughout Spain for its museums including the Jamón, Chocolate and Anis museums where you can enjoy the aroma of aniseed, delicious jamón, taste the delicious Christmas sweets and don't forget the chocolate. There are plenty of local shops selling bread, jamón, cheeses, fresh fruit and a great supermarket with a superb range of goods including fresh fish and of course, wines and spirits!

Iznajar

Iznájar

Just a few miles from Rute is the picturesque village of Iznájar which is surrounded by the reservoir that bears its name. The village is located on top of a hill and looks like an island that emerges from the waters that surround it, joining the mainland through the bridges.

On the lakeside you will find Valdearenas beach where you can swim, take a boat tour, hire kayaks, pedalos and canoes. Ideal for a picnic or enjoy the local cuisine at the beach restaurant. There's also an excellent municipal pool close to the lake.

The Alhambra

Córdoba, Seville, Granada and Malaga

The cities of Córdoba, Granada, Malaga, and Seville are all within easy driving distance from the house and great for a day's sightseeing trip to La Mesquita, Alhambra, Picasso Museum and the Alcazar. Each city has a wealth of history and culture.

The open top bus tours are a great way of taking in the popular attractions in the city if you are restricted for time.

The Subbética

The towns of the Subbética

The area known as the Subbética takes in a number of historical towns and villages. Make you sure you check out gems such as Priego de Córdoba, Cabra, Carcabuey and Zuheros. The Via Verde is the former rail line that carried the olive crop and has been converted into a walking and cycle path. Be sure to check out some of the former stations on the line, most of which are now restaurants, whilst at Doña Mencia you can hire bikes.

The Subbética

The Coast

If you want a visit to the tourist areas and the beaches; Nerja, Torre de Mar, Torremolinos and the Costa del Sol are just over an hour's drive from Rute and make for an excellent day out.
